If you are not
able to copy or transfer the maintenance release of PC Upgrade Commander
to one of the computers, we have provided a method for transport
over a parallel cable. This method is only supported under Windows
95/98/Me/NT (not 2000/XP). To be able to transfer the maintenance
release of PC Upgrade Commander, on each computer, you will need
to install a small transfer program called "ParXfer" onto
each computer.
1. Install the
older version of PC Upgrade Commander on both systems.
2. On the computer
that has Internet access, download the latest maintenance
release of PC Upgrade Commander and save it in your temp folder
(or on your desktop).
3. Download
the file ParXfer.exe (100KB) or the zip
version which includes help ParXfer.zip
(40 KB). Save the file to the PC Upgrade Commander program folder.
(Typically C:\Program Files\V Communications\PC Upgrade Commander).
If using the zip version, you must unzip the files before use.
4. Now also
copy ParXfer file(s) to a diskette. Remove the diskette and insert
it in the other system. Now copy it, from the diskette to the PC
Upgrade Commander program folder on the second computer.
5. To run ParXfer,
using Explorer, double click on ParXfer.exe from the PC Upgrade
Commander folder on each computer.
6. On the second
computer, at the Menu screen, you will select "Receive a file."
You will need to browse to find a location to save the file (a temp
folder, or the desktop) and type in the name of the file. Then choose
Next.
7. On the first
computer, which has the maintenance release file, you will then
select "Send a File." Browse to find the maintenance release
file that is in the temp folder. Choose Next to send the file.
8. This transfer
should only take a few seconds. Then run the maintenance release
(double click on the maintenance release file) on each computer
to update your version of PC Upgrade Commander.
You can also
use ParXfer to transfer other files one file at a time.
